Scale and sculpting in Blender
This is again a short tip for sculpting with Blender. Perhaps you already ran into this problem but didn’t know what actually caused it.
When you have a scaled object in Blender and begin to sculpt on this object, your results may become unpredictable – Blender also warns you when switching to sculpt mode for such an object:
Okay, let’s investigate the problem: First we scale a cube like this in object mode:
You can see that the scale values are 0.486, 1.322 and 0.115. Now switch to sculpt mode and you get the warning displayed above.
Select a sculpting brush like the Clay strips and start sculpting with Dynamic Topology enabled:
As you can see the results are bad, the brush does not work as expected because of the object’s scaling.
And here is how to get rid of the problem:
Before you switch to sculpt mode for your scaled object, select the object in object mode and press Ctrl + > A. Then select Apply Scale and the object will be scaled to 1,1,1:
Then you can switch to sculpt mode, the warning does not appear anymore and your sculpting brushs should work just fine:
