This is a Blender-tutorial in which we demonstrate how to use the Extrude- and Size-methods to model a small house for example with a window or a door. This methods are used very often in blender for modelling, we show how to use them with exact values and fixed directions.
First of all create a new blend-file with a cube. In Object-Mode select the cube with right mousebutton and press the S– and then the 2-Key. With this action we doubled the size of the cube. Then we move the cube a bit higher in Z-direction by pressing G-,Z– and then the 2-key. The cube looks like this now:
After that we will add a flat roof to the cube, but we want to have a separation between the cube and the roof which is a bit smaller than the cube itself. To achieve this result:
we change to Edit-Mode (Tab-Key), use Face-Selection and select the upper face. Then press E-Key and directly after that press Return-Key. Now we have a face extruded which lies upon the face we had selected. We size this newly extruded face by pressing S-Key and then we type 0.9.
After that we extrude again in Z-direction by pressing E– then Z-Key and then 0.2. Then we do an „empty“ extrude again (E-Key and immediately Return-Key after that) and then size again (S-Key, 1.1). Then the last extrude in Z-direction (E, Z, 0.2) and the roof is ready:
The last thing we will add is a window for the cube in the upper left corner. To do this we need more faces/edges at the front-side so we add these by subdividing the face. Select the front-face and press W, S to subdivide:
Then add two more edgeloops (press Ctrl+R-Key) and add one on the left side of the fase and one on the top side:
Move the existing edges a little bit to have a good size for your window. To move an edge, select the edgeloop (Alt + right mousebutton select) and press G, X (axis) or G, Z (axis) to move the edge along an axis:
Select the face at the upper left side of the cube, press E to extrude and set a value of about 0.2:
That’s it, a prototype for a house with flat roof and a window. If you want the user to ab able to look into the room you can remove the inner face of the window (Del-Key -> Faces).by
